So colour blocking has been a big trend for spring.  Are you left wondering how you’re going to pull it all together?  Here’s 2 quick tips on how to get it right:

1.) Start by accessorizing with colours that are complimentary to the colour blocking theme.  Here, we chose shoes in the same colour as the smallest piece of the dress to bring that colour out.

2.) Layer up to break it up. Put on a layered necklace, a scarf, or even a cardigan to break up the colour blocking effect and add some interest. Just make sure to keep the layers a neutral colour.

The weather has been warming up but its still a little too chilly for mini skirts and bare arms.  Effective layering can not only keep you from freezing, but adds a complexity and interest to an outfit.

Rules for How To Layer Successfully:

K.I.S.S. – We’ve all heard this one before.  You have to Keep It Simple.  Don’t layer up contrasting patterns and prints or too many different colours.  Choose one patterned or printed feature and one feature colour and add elements to compliment.

This is a pretty simple outfit. White V-neck shirt with a pleated Charcoal Wool Skirt and Grey Pointed Toe Oxfords. Since the grey’s do not match and the white is not balanced with the bottom half of the outfit, we need to add something to pull the look together….

Now the Basket Woven Scarf is complimenting the Oxfords and the white top is balanced by the white Lace Leggings.

Everyone knows that good accessories complete your outfit.  Belts have a way of tying everything together for a  finished, sharper look.  You can dress up a pair of jeans with one, define your waist, or simply use it to incorporate another colour or dimension into your look.

Waist cinching belts are still the hottest trend in ‘waistland’.  Here’s a before and after shot to show you what a difference a simple $24 belt can make.

Woodland style is about putting the charm and serenity of nature into fashion. Adaptations of nature are popping up in inspired prints and colour pallets, shapes and construction of garments, jewelry and accessories, and influencing the art direction and locations of fashion shoots.
