I love a quick update on what’s hot right now without having to do much searching so here goes:
.) Draping – All kinds of garments draped with all kinds of fabrics, just ensure that the added volume doesn’t takeover your silhouette. If you wear a draped skirt (like the silver party skirts from the last sale), then wear a fitted top, if you have large hips and are wearing a dress with draping, then make sure your waist is defined. Just keep it balanced!
.) Sequins – Turn up the Glamour with Sequins – the perfect look for that special night out! Sequin is showing up on just about everything – tops, skirts, leggings, pants, jackets, accessories, you name it!
.) Corset Lacing – top fashion designers Roberto Cavalli and Nina Ricci have both included this detail in recent designs as lace up leggings and platform thigh high boots. Here’s an example from one of my suppliers:
Like these boots? Leave a comment if you think I should bring them in for the next sale!
.) Studs – I’m not talking about men, but rather the heavy metal hardware that is adorning every kind of garment you can think of. Here’s some studded boots I adore!
.) Red Lips – Go for a bold lip this season! Fair skin should stick to a pink shade of red and orange shades of red will flatter dark skin. Stick to matte to avoid smearing.
.) Minimal Eyes – A fresh face is the best compliment to bold lips so keep the eye makeup to a minimum (think Tilda Swan).
.) Thigh Highs – the hottest height in boots right now! Wear with winter shorts or a short knitted dress for a dramatic and sexy look.
.) Winter Shorts – tall boots call for short pants, so the ‘winter short’ was born. Layer over patterned tights and keep the fabric a cozy tweed or alike.
.) Strong Shoulders – We have Balmain to thank for this ultra mod trend (or maybe we should thank the real visionary – Prince circa ‘Raspberry Beret’ http://vodpod.com/watch/1327260-raspberry-beret)
.) Biker Jacket – be bad ass and grab a biker jacket this season. For an investment piece, I recommend getting a classic zip down style with a button up collar, cropped to waist length – this will always be in style no matter the trend. Or to capture the moment of the trend right now, go for something a little more daring, like this tailored, studded number:
.) Colored Gloves – Liven up your neutral fall wardrobe with pops of colour through your accessory collection.
.) Tough Boots – A true Glam Rock look isn’t complete without some tough-girl boots. Here is a good example (and ironically enough, these are trampling a pink bunny pelt!? oh no, that is tough!)
.) Ripped Denim – I’m sure this isn’t news to you, since distressed denim has been huge since spring.
.) Chunky Knits – Get cozy with chunky and oversize knits.
.) Menswear – Chanel was the original but right now, I have to say Ralph Lauren is killing it! (My eyes are peeled for an affordable version of the Blue Label collection). Look for tweed ‘paper boy’ hats, tailored jackets and vests, trousers and mix in some ruffles to keep it feminine.
.) Capes – I know what you’re thinking, but a style like this is totally do-able:
.) Fur – Well, this is a little bit controversial. I look for recycled vintage fur on consignment so I’m not encouraging the market, so to speak. However, if you still don’t like this idea, just go fakey! There are some really luxurious faux furs out there now.
.) One Shoulder – Still going strong since spring and now moving into the One Sleeve.
.) Leather – whether is be jackets, skirts, or leggings, faux or real, add some to your collection!
.) Sheer – Since Fall and Winter are the seasons for layering anyway, get flirty and go for something Sheer.
